CCA…stands for Canadian Center for Architecture, one day I should visit it, but across the street is some kind of park, you do find trees…bushes, and sculptures, there is also the foudation of an old building, I guess I will have to go back there to look more deeply at it…in summer maybe…

A photo, the last one of an old slide film taken in 1981, a lonely jogger in a park,a photo to fill a post on this saturday night, where for the first time this year, I think, I took my brushes for some work, on a canvas, instead of a pen on a tablet or computer screen or even giving food to ‘pinceau’ brush in french, the name I am desperately trying to teach my cat his name, difficult he’s at least 3 years old and never had a name….in the meantime, that he learn it or that I have painting to show, a photo from 1981…
A photo taken one morning in August, shortly before my vacation....sipping coffee sitting in the backyard stairs, probably going through mentally about all the things I was planning to do during those upcoming weeks, now I am going back to work tomorrow, and of course I do have the feeling that I did not do anything, well I guess what's left will have to wait to the next occasion...:) Parfois un poteau mal cadré dans une photo donne un tout autre sens au message, comme vigilant qui devient violant, et cette pancarte qui appelle à la vigilance, ferait l'éloge de la violence....parfois faut se méfier d'une lecture faussée...:)
For this one it is better if you can read french....in english the pole hiding one or two letter doesn't cause a misreading of this poster, but in french it is much more misleading, the way it looks now, you would read something praising violence, it does translate as ' violent today, alive tomorrow'...actually it is written to be vigilant, be aware, and tomorrow you will be there to read it again....and safe...:) Une autre photo de l'est de Montréal, prise en 1981, l'originale est en couleur mais peu intéressant, donc modifiée celle-ci pour une photo en noir et blanc...
Another old picture taken in 1981, in the East-end of Montreal, CPR tracks, the original photo is in color, but colors weren't nice, actually almost grey and black, so I did transformed it into a black and white photograph.... I've been rather quiet for the last few days...I did participate to a friend and neighbor 'Artistic garage sale' lot of my older works and art pieces he bought and want to depart of it, so of course it did took much of my time since last Friday, and on top of that I did some in-line shopping for many thing I had to replace, a printer, and others things, and of course I wasn't home when they tried to deliver it, so I had to go a few times to get this stuff...very time consuming....while we were having this exhibition, there was also the Ukrainian Community who held their annual festival, lot of good food, music, traditional dance and more modern shows, you can find all kind of very nice things and ambiance during that week-end, a nice happening in our area each second week-end of September Voici quelques photos de l'expostion, ou vente de garage artistique... Here is a few pics of this Artst Garage Sale...
Another street scene, taken end of November 1981, trace of the first snow still on the ground, this is East-End Montreal, at the limit of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Rosemont, part of Montreal, working class type area, now being slowly 'gentrified', so just an ordinary street scene, nothing special.... Another one of those old photos, it was in Montreal, autumn 1981, kind of difficult to render it in photoshop the way I saw it when I took this picture...at least the way I think I saw it then, long time ago...
And then I thought it's been a long time I did not try some montage in photoshop, I was seeing a photo of a model whose pose would match, more or less the tree trunk...found one, could have look more, but I choose that one, and then I figure that maybe she would like to pose with her own reflection...the result, another painting coming, I think...
A 30 years span between these two pics, similar in a way, photos taken from the appartment backdoor, the first one in 1981, in Montreal, district Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, a rather gloomy surrounding, a backstreet alley, a parking lot, some kind of manufacture, I had good time there but not because of the view....:). The second one was taken in 2011, the place I live now, for the last 25 years...of course it is night, you don't see the well maintained backyard, trees, plants, flowers, a quiet place, still have lot of fun living here, and this time the view does bring a bit to it....
Not sure about the translation, but that's what Montreal was known for a while ago, the Catholic religion had a large say on the way people in Montreal and Quebec were living back to the late sixties, and there was always an impressive church, with the bell towers running pretty far above the surroundings, maybe a way to remind us that the church was overseeing us...in my youth, I had to be an altar boy, no choice there, my parents were quite involved with the our church...and it was kind of an obligation to do that, in my first year of school, there were still some Fathers teaching, soon after the school became a bit less under the church grasp but still very 'catholic', we had to go to church on the first Friday each month, the fasting period before Easter was much more respected, no meat on Fridays, and a house rule, my Father would question us during Sunday dinner about what was the Gospel topic or what the priest has talk about...not easy...so this pic kind of brought back a lot of that when I saw it again... |
