A group of 'southern tourists' in awe in front of an Inuksuk, the funny thing about this one is that it was built by a group of Canadian soldiers in training there, and besides the Inuits residing in Resolute, were taken from other villages, from Baffin Island I believe, and brought in Resolute between 1952 and 1955, the first settlement there was a joint US-Canada weather station in 1947, that photo was taken on my first trip out there in May 1983... Pour plus d'infos sur Resolute, voir les deux liens ci-après...en anglais... For more infos on Resol;ute, I am including two links here after... http://www.qtcommission.com/actions/GetPage.php?pageId=18&communityId=12 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inuksuk

En route vers Eureka, un passager a changé d'idée à la derniêre minute...un renard blanc, sais pas s'il avait vu un lièvre artique, ou c'est peut-être tout simplement une tâche sur la diapositive...mais le renard je suis sûr que ce n'était pas une tache...:), par contre le renard se devait d'être prudent, car c'était peut-être un 'artic killer hare', terrifiante légende du nord canadien...dont je vous ferai part dans un article future, effrayant,,,,:) Almost ready to lift off for Eureka, just before, a passenger changed is mind, an artic fox, maybe he was after an artic hare, or was it just a piece of dust on the slide...the fox was real, that I am sure off...but the fox had to be careful because up north, there is a legend, a kind of artic hare, called the 'Artic Killer Hare'..but I don't have the time to write more about this now, and it is a quite terrifying story....:) Quelques clichés de montagnes et de fjord enneigés ou glacés, et parfois de l'aile de l'avion, ces diapos, enfin deux particulièrement étaient difficiles à rendre, je les ai modifiés dans photoshop mais pas sûr de l'exactitude des couleurs, faut dire que les couleurs sont plutôt absentes dans ces paysages à ce temps là de l'année...blanc, bleu et noir ou brun, l'objet le plus coloré étant l'avion...et encore je n'ai eu que l'aile...:)
A few shots of mountains, iced or snowy, fjords, colors were difficult to adjust on most of these pics, so I did some interpretation with photoshop, as for colors they aren't that many at that time of the year up there....white, blue, and dark brown or black or grey...the most colorful object is probably the plane, and only the wing was visible...:) Je continue à dépoussiérer, littéralement...mes diapositives, celles-ci ont été prises en mai 1983, c'était dans le cadre de mon emploi du temps, mon premier voyage dans le Grand Nord Canadien....direction Resolute Bay et Eureka, Nunavut, dans ce temps là c'était les Territoires du Nord-Ouest, donc quelques photos, les premières prises sur le 'tarmac' de l'aéroport de Resolute avant de prendre l'avion qui nous amenait à Eureka, si ma mémoire est bonne, je dois avouer que c'est un peu flou, mais c'est le Nord, le vrai, qui était encore couvert de glace la plupart de l'année, ce qui ne sera peut-être plus le cas pour bien longtemps encore...les premières photos sont de l'aéroport de Résolute Bay, plaque tournante du Nord. I still dusting off my slides, literately...will have lot of work with photoshop, even if the 'Ice technology' of Epson does some work on that, so these were taken in May 1983, my first trip to the Great White North, up to Resolute bay , and further to Eureka, Northwest Territories, now known as Nunavut. I am still trying to figure out exactly where those pics were taken, I am sure about a few ones, others are a bit in the mist of my memory...1983 is a bit far, I took some notes then, but haven't found them yet, probably I will never do, so have to rely on my sometimes sketchy memory.... More pics will be shown, but the chronological order is a bit, a lot, messed up, I did found most of my slides, I used to keep them numbered, notes taken, but all of this is gone, so it will be like a movie with a lot of flashback or forward...and the next stop, after Resolute Bay airport was the Eureka weather station. right in the middle of Ellesmere Island, next to Greenland...way up North, in fact at this point a compass would point due west.... at least in 1983, it is always moving so right now I'm not sure where it is really.....
The Canon and the fort....it was 1983, at the height of the Cold War, so if first Secretary then, Antropov, was to send in the Red Army, Canada was on guard to keep them off...:) but I think it is more like the kind of humorous things you do find in most of the northern posts...a bit of humour does help to keep the hearth and the rest warm...:) Peut-être aussi que des cartes tirées de Google Map illustreraient bien où sont situés ces endroits... I though that maybe a location map of these sites would be useful...to get a sense of where are these places... |
