​Nouvelle esquisse digitale, en fait non, pas vraiment nouvelle mais récente, commencée en novembre 2023, je trouvais le fond noir de la photo originale, plus ou moins inspirant, donc j’ai modifié l’arrière plan afin de le rendre un peu plus semblable à ce que je veux dessiner.

A new sketch, actually, not true, it is recent but not a new one, Kate Moss, started in November 2023, I did not like the black bacground of the reference photo used for my sketch, so I have decided that before drawing it, I would render it more the way I want it to look in my sketch.

La photo originale et la modifiée / the original photo and the altered one

​Je ne place pas la photo reférence dans un calque Photoshop, je préfère une approche plus traditionnelle, j’ai la photo reférence dans un une fenêtre et je dessine dans une autre fenêtre, quoique j’utilise une série de repères, un quadrillage afin de faciliter le dessin, curieux lorsque je travaille sur toile ou sur papier, il y a bien longtemps il me semble, j’y vais sans aide, sauf occasionnellement, la photo affichée dans un écran et il m’arriver de valider la distance entre le bord de l’oeuvre et ce que je dessine…enfin tout cela me donne l’impression de garder un geste plus libre lorsque je dessine…comme je l’ai écrit maintes fois, ce n’est pas comme travailler sur un support physique, mais j’aime bien les possibilités offerte par cet outil.

When I work on my digital sketches, I do not place the reference image on an underlying layer in Photoshop, the only ‘help’ I am using is the grid of lines to compare the two windows, photo and sketch, side by side, the grid is more like the traditionnal way of starting a painting, having the grid as a reference, funny I do not feel the need to do that when I am working on a physical support, canvas or paper, maybe I should…would have probably save me extensive repainting going over mistakes…The only thing I would do recently when I was still working on a canvas or paper, was to used my old computer as a screen viewer and sometimes I would measure using photoshop some elements and compare them to my painting, trying to make sure I was not starting on the wrong foo….

Donc une version, la deuxième de cette illustration, il y en aura d’autres, la 3e est déjà prête, mais si vous fréquentez mon site régulièrement, vous savez que j’aime les présenter à intervalle, disons plus ou moins régulier / So here is the second version of this illustration, there will be other, the third is already done…if you are used to visit my site, you known already that I do like to present them a bit by bit, on a more or less regular schedule, a regular but not so predictable agenda….:)
