Good thing I do have those slides and negatives to arrange in photoshop, so when I need of break from this painting, I know what to do , and when I need a break from sorting, scanning, modifying those pics I go back to painting..but now I also must take care of my domestic things to do...my short vacation is over and I must prepare for this week's work...snif snif, so what I was going to say is that I did work quite a bit on Liz painting's, her face is becoming ok, I love the texture and lights on her dress and boots, the background, so it is almost there...but I have to let it dry for a bit of time before working some details....the pic of the latest version...

Sometimes, during that long trip, I kind of put away my photographic apparel, in Salzburg, I was there three days and manage to take only a few pics, about 8 or 9 photos...most of them a day I went up the hill to Holhensalburg castle, it was the end of november, a bit cold, windy and raining partly, like it did for most of these days, so I probably spent more time in the Youth Hostel bar, than walking the streets, even if I did quite a bid, but just looking, no pictures....and very few tourists going around... And a tourist, like me...funny most of the time I don't include people in my photos, maybe the on an off photographer I am is shy, or simply more interested in graphic composition offered by places I visit, or maybe both...
A few more pics taken from this place will be shown on a forthcoming post... A short pause from painting, it is Liz's turn now, still working on this one this morning, so here's the latest version, hum not quite right, as I wrote I'm working on it this morning, and will get back to it, as soon as I am finish with this post. So you can expect another version soon, tomorrow, anyhow we will see, highly possible too there will be more scanned photos. I want to go back to my painting, but I will still take time to set up the usual presentation of the slideshow and Liz's photograph. I still dusting off my slides, literately...will have lot of work with photoshop, even if the 'Ice technology' of Epson does some work on that, so these were taken in May 1983, my first trip to the Great White North, up to Resolute bay , and further to Eureka, Northwest Territories, now known as Nunavut. I am still trying to figure out exactly where those pics were taken, I am sure about a few ones, others are a bit in the mist of my memory...1983 is a bit far, I took some notes then, but haven't found them yet, probably I will never do, so have to rely on my sometimes sketchy memory.... More pics will be shown, but the chronological order is a bit, a lot, messed up, I did found most of my slides, I used to keep them numbered, notes taken, but all of this is gone, so it will be like a movie with a lot of flashback or forward...and the next stop, after Resolute Bay airport was the Eureka weather station. right in the middle of Ellesmere Island, next to Greenland...way up North, in fact at this point a compass would point due west.... at least in 1983, it is always moving so right now I'm not sure where it is really.....
The Canon and the fort....it was 1983, at the height of the Cold War, so if first Secretary then, Antropov, was to send in the Red Army, Canada was on guard to keep them off...:) but I think it is more like the kind of humorous things you do find in most of the northern posts...a bit of humour does help to keep the hearth and the rest warm...:) Peut-être aussi que des cartes tirées de Google Map illustreraient bien où sont situés ces endroits... I though that maybe a location map of these sites would be useful...to get a sense of where are these places... Those of you who followed me for a while already know that, sometimes I can stay on the same works for quite an extent of time, showing more or less changes, at least now I do show some posts featuring my photographs, so it create a bit more diversity, and you don't have to read two, three or four posts on the same painting, not knowing if it did change and where it did..not always so evident, I admit...so here's the latest version of this model wearing sunglasses and thigh high boots...she must love them, wearing them even in the midst of a hot summer, at least it does seems to me. And the slideshow and this model photograph's, the photo link goes to my models folder's on Flickr.
In the few pics I did scan so far, I must admit I don't have many 'postcard' type photos...like the ones you would show to your family and friends coming back from a trip abroad...:), so here's one taken from the hill where the Old Castle is, a view of the Old bridge crossing the Neckar River in Heidelberg. The bridge was partially destroyed in 1945, from what I found on the net, there's been 9 bridges at the present site, the first one beign built in the 13 th century, apparently some part of the original foundation are still part of the actual bridge, rebuild in 1947, I guess this morning it is my old engineer formation resurfacing or maybe the part of me interest in history as a hobby, but i though providing some info bring a bit of background on this picture, If you want to learn more, I put a link ine english, there was more detailed links in french...so the pic... Lien en français http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alte_Br%C3%BCcke_(Heidelberg) English link, I found more links in french, so here's one in english, but not as detailed... http://www.heidelberg-marketing.com/experience/sights/alte-bruecke-old-bridge.html Qui n'a pas rêvé de sa petite 'cabane', la nature et la poubelle tout prèes....:) que ce soit au Canada ou ailleurs...le Canada, grande étendue d'aires sauvages....dans ce cas-ci j'ai eu l'aide d'un ami de longue date, et non ce n'est pas la maison qu'il habitait, plutôt la remise....faut pas croire tout ce que l'on voit sur le web....mais je me suis dit que parfois avec peu, on peut faire une photo passable...donc la photo et le 'peu', un domaine....:)
Who did not dream of having his dream house, 'petite cabane' a quiet place, nature at the outdoor, and garbage can, for this one I had the collaboration of a long time friend, and no it is not is house...rather a backyard shed, so here's the proof, don't believe everything you do see on the web....:) but I thought that with not much of a scene I was able to make a nice pic, not great but decent...:), so the pic and the 'scenic house'.... With the nice weather that finally comes around here, maybe it is time now for this model wearing her sunglasses, and thigh boots, not so warm as she's feeling taking them off....anyhow it would be difficult. I though this painting was lacking a bit of contrast and subtleties in her clothing, I shall try to fix that, even if this painting is quite advanced, I don't think I will finish it this time or in the next few sessions, I will have to decide to which extent I want to push it...difficult to explain, I guess it is to take it to the undefinable point where I feel it is done....without overdoing it of course. And as usual, and besides it's been a while we did not seen her in a post, so here's the slideshow and her photo Non je ne parle pas ici de la qualité de la prise de vue de mes diapositives, le lieu est un amphithéâtre, qui me paraissait bien ancien, surtout qu'il me semble, si ma mémoire est bonne qu'on y faisait allusion à une époque lointaine, alors comme je ressortais ces photos de l'oubli, je décide de faire une petite recherche internet, donc oui c'est un lieu ancien, mais qui a servi à des meetings nazis dans les années trente et quarante, je me souviens avoir trouvé ce lieu bien apaisant, et d'une certaine beauté et sérinité, ces dernières informations viennent quelque peu assombrir mes premières impressions...mais j'y avais tout-de-même trouvé quelques occasions de prendre des clichés...les voici...Heidelberg, novembre 1986 Strange as sometimes you thought as a place as a beautiful quiet place, full of serenity, the information I read at that time, in November 1986, let me believe it was some ancient construction, so when I scan these slides today, I did a bit of research, I like presenting a bit of background on some of the pictures I took, I was quite surprised to found out that place is in fact an old relic from the past, but not so far...more like in the thirties and forties, a place where young Nazis would gather, it kind of took away the sweetness I did found about this place, I guess I am better telling myself that a dark place could also be a nice place at some other times...so here's those pictures.
I don't know, sometimes it is better I think to sit and write a draft for a post instead of struggling with a painting, especially if that on is going well so far, and you don't want to get into trouble, in this case, it is her fur hat, that my model is wearing,of course I should say more exactly that this photo model's is wearing, and now it does look more like a cake posed on her head, instead of a hat, and of top of that it was my birthday a few days ago, did not celebrate until yesterday, so not a good thing when you're a bit drunk to try to fix things on a painting...that I've learned over the years...:), so I guess it would be for another time for me to transform this apparently cake hat into a fur hat that goes well with this charming model... Et le diaporama de ce tableau à ce jour, et pourquoi pas la photo du modèle et de son chapeau en fourrure ui ne devrait pas avoir l'air d'un gâteau....:) And here's the slideshow, and this model photo with her fur hat, that should not look like a cake in this painting...:) |
