Another pic taken from the past...Winnipeg in 1983, a demonstration against nuclear arms race at the time, for one day, part of Main Street was under pedestrian 'control', at least half of it, look almost like two sides facing each other, cars vs pedestrians, but I must say that in most of Canadians cities, except in Quebec, drivers are very respectful for pedestrians crossing the street, which for somebody like me who's been raised and live in Montreal is a very strange thing, here you feel it is a day-to-day war between cars, pedestrians and cyclists, nobody paying attention, or little attention to the others...

In a demonstration, or parade, there is two types of persons, the ones who are part of the demonstration and some by-standers, looking amazed, sometimes not quite....:) This was taken in 1982, during a peace march in the streets of Winnipeg.
Well let's see what we can do here, one way that way, one way the other, do not park your car, and if you dare to cross the street now, you may get slap in the face...:) eN 1985, les bières artisanales, ou de de micro-brasserie, n'étaient pas très répandues à Winnipeg, aujourd'hui autant là bas j'imagine qu'ici à Montréal on a maintenant un grand choix de bières qui se démarquent de ces bières qui souvent sont bien ordinaires...vestige d'une autre époque...:)
In 1985, the beer market was still dominated by large breweries, the smaller ones did not yet had a widespread base, so we used to drink a good but very average beer...in Quebec, the most popular product was Molson Export, their other 'flagship' beer 'Canadian' was almost unknown in Montreal, maybe a question of politic and image...:), so when I moved to Winnipeg, the Molson Ex there did not taste the same, so I became a true Canadian, now things have changes, many small breweries have sprung and we do have a very nice choice of different brands with many differences among them..so this pic seems to me like a souvenir from a long gone era...:) Quelques minutes après le décollage de l'aéroport de Winnipeg , quelque part en juin 1982, enfin je présume, probablement que c'est la rivière Assiniboine qu'on voit partiellement, mais encore une fois, tout cela est un peu lointain maintenant et ma mémoire n'est plus aussi bonne....oui la photo a été modifié dans photoshop...
A few minutes after take off from Winnipeg airport, sometimes in June 1982, at least I presume, although I have a hard time figuring which way we look, probably south of the airport, and this is probably the Assiniboine River that we can partly see, it was a long time ago, and my memory isn't what is used to be.....and yes the photo was retouched with photoshop....
Close to my place, when I was living in Winnipeg, rhe Assiboine River was close, not that close that I could see it from my place, but it was a short walk, on the other side toward downtown you get to the Manitoba Parliament Site, a beautiful park, it was a nice walk to downtown area where I worked then. For the first few weeks living in my new place at the time, Winnipeg, a few things were quite different than what I've known growing in a francophone borough of Montreal, for example grocery cart stay or were left on the front of the grocery store or in the adjacent parking lot, but in Winnipeg, and I guess in most of English Canada cities, you will find them almost every where, sometimes in some unusual spot, at least for me at that time, after a few weeks, I was already a bit less aware of their unusual places where they were left...
I found amusing also, seeing the grocery store truck driving along the neighborhood streets and gathering those 'lost' grocery carts....maybe I should have worked on some king of homing device for those...I would have been rich...maybe not...:) Après un séjour de quelques mois loin de l'appartement, même si je trouvais le Nord bien beau, j'aimais tout autant retrouver mon chez-moi, la quiétude de ma place, mes petits bars favoris tout près et siroter un ver de blanc un samedi ou dimanche après-midi bien tranquille.
After a long journey up North, it was always good to get back home, find again my apartment, my favorite waterholes nearby the place, and on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon enjoying a nice bottle of white wine, and taking care of my poor little plant that had suffered from my lack of attention and care. Actually a friend of mine from Montreal had sent me these ivy plant, they don't need much care or water, and this friend knows me quite well, I am not too good with plants...and often when I was travelling North, I rarely came back on the scheduled time, so often they had suffered a bit too much, but before leaving I was always keeping a bouture, in a glasse of water, and just putting it into some earth it would grow again....
Fooling around with a camera, can sometimes give some weird results, this one I wanted it that way, slow shutter speed, even if I had no tripod, but I had a bridge, a real one, the one over the Assiniboine River in Winnipeg, nearby my place, so trying to be as steady as possible, I was hoping for some 'Swishhh effect' can't think of a term for it now...:), but I am pretty sure that when this woman pushing her grocery cart passed me by, I am pretty sure she was going much faster than a few seconds before....:) I was often trying to photograph unusual pic when I was walking in town, and that place was still rather new to me, could barely speak english, I felt really like a strange being in a strange place...:), so the photo and the original one... |
